Estimate your personal guarantee exposure

Your loan amount is only the starting point. This calculator estimates how business recovery, personal assets, state considerations, and loan structure may affect your net personal exposure under a personal guarantee.

Walk through five sections — loan details, business recovery estimate, personal balance sheet, spouse and state questions, and your estimated exposure — in about three minutes. Use your own numbers or sample numbers to see how the calculator works.

What the calculator covers

  • Loan details — amount, type, state, closing timeline
  • Business recovery — what the business might be worth in a bad outcome
  • Personal balance sheet — assets that could matter under a personal guarantee
  • Spouse, state, and title — how signatures, asset titling, and state law affect exposure
  • Your exposure estimate — estimated personal deficiency and share of assets at risk

How it works

The calculator takes your loan amount, subtracts estimated business recovery, and shows the potential personal deficiency. It then applies binary exemptions — retirement assets are treated as fully exempt, and home equity is exempt in strong-homestead states or when tenancy-by-the-entirety protections apply.

The result is an educational estimate, not a prediction. It does not determine coverage eligibility. It is not legal, tax, or financial advice.
